Having recently witnessed a lot of behaviours that are not only immature but also disturbing, I thought today would be a great time for this piece.
Growing up, I was taught that ‘conversation’ was about multiple ideas, views, opinions etc. In case I’ve been wrong all these years, I looked up the definition and according to Oxford Dictionaries, I wasn’t too far off.
Pronunciation: /kɒnvəˈseɪʃ(ə)n/
Definition of conversation in English:
noun:
a talk, especially an informal one, between two or more people, in which news and ideas are exchanged.
I’m sure there are countless people around the world who know about Facebook threads, Twitter, Instagram, etc, however it seems in today’s society that people can not come together in joint discussion without venom, name calling, foul or abusive language, threats, and so on and so on. WHY? When did we become the authority on what other people are allowed to think?
I understand some frustrations when people post or comment to situations they are completely ignorant of, but still, there is no need for venom because we have ALL indirectly done it at least once. There is enough ignorance and hate and it needs to stop. We claim foul and outrage at bullies in schools and online yet I am witnessing many many adults guilty of the same shameful behaviour towards each other. Hmmm.
People, opinions are exactly that…OPINIONS!
o·pin·ion
əˈpinyən/
noun
-
a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
My point? I don’t understand why, in today’s society of 2015, discussions and conversations turn into psyscological warfare.
