Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Staying at Planet Hollywood in Costa Rica was definitely a great way to start 2019! We stayed at the hotel in January 2019; only a short time after they opened in late 2018.
They had renovated an existing resort and added a few new buildings, then gave the entire resort a facelift. When you arrive, they definitely make sure you feel like a star with a well deserved welcome drink (after that long flight)! But I have to say the travel time from the local airport to the hotel is rather quick. 🙂
The resort is situated on a steep hill so if you are missing your stair master back home, fear not! You EASILY get your exercise walking to the beach or lobby areas from your room (don’t worry, they have golf carts to take you to and fro if you’d rather not workout) 😉
Our first night at the resort was in a junior suite, which was nice but when traveling with a teenager, a little more room is nice so we upgraded to a Director’s suite our second day. The suite we had was a short distance from the lobby and a nice golf cart ride to the pool and beach area. The Director’s suite master had a large kind bed with adjacent jacuzzi tub w/ separate shower and restroom area. The master bedroom also has sliding doors leading to a balcony/patio. The main area also had a full bathroom with shower, kitchen table, counter w/ sink, microwave, and mini bar! There is an awesome seating area that leads to a balcony/patio and the air conditioning is controlled separately in both rooms. They also brought in a separate bed for our son, so he didn’t have to sleep on the couch.
Each room has an interactive TV that allows you to see menus and order room service (this was really cool) 🙂 All of the resort information is available on the interactive tv. The rooms all have a safe for your personal valuables and a lot of closet space. Every day they replenish your mini bar fridge, which had a great assortment of drinks & they also provide a number of snacks.
The 1st all-inclusive resort to feature 'Guy Fieri's Burger Joint'
There is a great selection of restaurants to serve you!
We really enjoyed the Sushi restaurant and the Italian restaurant .. these were our favourites (next to the Tex Mex on the pool deck, that is 😉
PH Experiences did a great job helping us select a tour and a jet ski rental on the beach. You will find they have a PH Experience’s office in both the lobby and just before the beach area on the pool deck. We booked our tour in the lobby and our Jet Ski adventure on the pool deck. The staff at both locations were great to deal with! The resort offers a number of activities and entertainment (all just a click away as you can find it all on your room’s interactive tv). You will find a number of Hollywood memorabilia displayed around the resort, along with some interesting information related to the items displayed.
Throughout our stay, we learned that taking a cab is not a good idea! However, if you’re looking to explore Coco Beach you can take a boat ride (which is provided through PH Experiences – and they can arrange for transport to a number of places). We had rented a car for a few days and it provided us with little more freedom to explore at our own pace. We had driven into Coco Beach, which is about a 30 minute drive, where you will find a number of unique stores and restaurants. We also spent a day exploring, and one of the places we visited was Llanos de Cortes, one of Costa Rica’s easier to access waterfalls.
Enjoy our movie 🙂
