The Calgary Zoo

With my 50th soon approaching I told my husband how I wanted to spend the day. A nice quiet day..brunch at the zoo and a day with the animals. I couldn’t think of anything better 🥰 Well, my husband somehow mixed things up a little 🤦‍♀️ and instead that’s what we did for our anniversary.

Tracing its roots back as far as 1917, the Calgary Zoo is one of the city’s most popular family attractions and Canada’s largest and most visited zoological park! The zoo sits on a 120-acre site on St. George’s Island, located in the Bow River.

The Calgary Zoo is home to over 1,000 animals representing 272 species, including many examples of rare and endangered species, as well as botanical gardens.

Spring is always a fun time to visit due to the arrival of newborn animals (check the zoo’s website for news and details). We got to see the new baby gorilla. 🥰 Such pure love. 🥰

The most popular must-see sections include the Land of Lemurs, Destination Africa and the Canadian Wilds. It’s at the latter that you’ll enjoy up-close views of fascinating creatures, including grizzly bears and a pair of pandas. If you’re an animal lover like I am all of the animals will be your favourites! The boys want acreage in the future .. they may have just gotten a glimpse of what it might look like. 🤣 😂

Other fun things to do include spending time exploring the six-acre prehistoric park attraction with its full-size replica dinosaurs. WE RECOMMEND YOU BRING LOTS OF ENERGY WITH YOU!

For those travelling in winter, be sure to visit the nighttime Zoolights Christmas Festival held here each year. We can’t wait to see them this year. We anticipate a magical Winterland.

Address: 210 St. George’s Drive NE, Calgary, Alberta

It was a great brunch and a fantastic (tiring) day spent in wonderful company … but now what the &@!! am I going to do for my birthday?! I guess I’ll have to do it all over again. 😊

**We were unable to see Kimani (the 6 year old Western Lowland Gorilla) as she was ill and under veterinary care, and she has since passed away**
